Where It All Began

Lin Wei, the founder of Garybank, was once a corporate executive and a graduate of Tsinghua University (often called “China’s MIT” and a cradle of leaders in science and technology, consistently ranked among Asia’s top three universities). She always managed to balance her career and family with ease.

That balance was shaken when her son started preschool. His teachers began reporting frequent conflicts with classmates, emotional outbursts, and aggressive behaviors like throwing toys. What seemed like normal childhood energy turned out to be something deeper. A diagnosis of “ADHD” cast a shadow over their once high-achieving household.

Lin resigned from her high-paying job and dove into stacks of professional literature—books on psychology, case studies in special education—filling more than twenty notebooks with detailed, handwritten notes. She began to turn theory into practice, creating connections with her son through the universal language of play and toys: teaching emotional intelligence in child-friendly language and creating games to simulate social interactions. All the while, she juggled the needs of her two other children and braved social doubts about having “given up a brilliant career.”

After five years of relentless effort, a breakthrough finally came. Her son began to open up, and slowly but surely, he reintegrated into group life. What emerged from this challenging journey was not just healing, but a set of scientifically grounded methods for emotional and behavioral intervention.

Today, Lin Wei has turned her hard-won insights into Garybank, aiming to bring light and support to other families navigating similar storms. Her mission is simple yet powerful: to help every child grow in an environment that is both nurturing and scientifically informed.
